Reporting to the Team Lead Investigator, Carrier Services, you will be responsible for ensuring motor carrier safety and compliance with provincial and federal legislation thereby contributing to the safety of the motoring public and to safe-guard the highway infrastructure in Alberta.
The Public Safety Investigator enhances and maintains public safety by conducting complex investigations into carrier safety and taking disciplinary action for non-compliance; and by communicating the standards outlined in the National Safety Code, federal and provincial legislation. This position analyzes industry-wide issues and incidents involving commercial truck and bus carrier operations to determine the root cause(s) of the safety issues. Acting as a resource to the department, associations, carriers, shippers, receivers, policing agencies, other provincial, national and international transportation departments and the general public you will educate and raise awareness of the National Safety Code program and other regulatory non-compliance issues.
To be successful in this position you will have a broad knowledge of the transportation and related industry operational practices with the ability to analyze interpersonal situations and employ conflict resolution strategies. Have the ability to facilitate professional business relationships and networks and have well developed organization and time management skills to ensure that audits and investigations are dealt with in a timely manner. Work independently as travel is required to many different locations within the province.
Degree in law enforcement or a related discipline plus at least 3 years of related experience in an investigative, analytical and/or enforcement capacity or a Related Diploma plus at least 5 years of related experience performing investigations, inspections, and/or enforcement of related legislation. Equivalencies will be considered.
$2,500.57 to $3,105.83 bi-weekly
There are 2 positions available - one in Grande Prairie and one in Edmonton, please note on your application which location you prefer.
Candidates must be eligible for a Peace Officer Appointment and be physically able to conduct CVSA inspections. You must hold a valid driver's license and provide your own transportation. Final candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a security screening. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower level. Future vacancies may be filled by this competition.
