Commercial Vehicle Enforcement's mandate is to protect the highway infrastructure and ensure the safety of all highway users. In these important and visible roles, you will have significant interaction with the motor transport industry. As a Transport Officer, you will ensure compliance with National Safety Code requirements and Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance standards through the operation of permanent and portable weigh scales and mobile patrols within a designated geographical location. In partnership with local law enforcement agencies, you will ensure compliance with relevant provincial statutes and maintain public safety on primary highways. You will conduct mechanical inspections and perform other traffic-related duties.
As a representative of the Government of Alberta your professionalism is paramount in this role. You must be prepared to work shifts, weekends, and holidays. You must be physically able to check commercial vehicles and loads for safety and mechanical fitness. Your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills will be used extensively, as you maintain daily contact with the transport industry to provide information, interpret legislation and ensure compliance. You will also assist in the delivery of seminars to a wide array of clients and promote an active working relationship with other agencies. Effective writing skills are essential.

Related two year Diploma, or High School Diploma plus a minimum of two years of related law enforcement experience; OR Journeyman (M/F) Heavy Duty Technician with a minimum of one year recent experience related to motor transport industry and/or recent related law enforcement experience. Equivalences will be considered. Eligibility for Peace Officer status is required.
Candidates with a one year certificate in a related field may be considered for a position as an Auxiliary Transport Officer (SST1).
$1,982.94 to $2,677.23 bi-weekly
If you are selected for an interview, you MUST have successfully completed and obtained the following prior to the interview date:
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR - Level C (Adult, Child, Infant)
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License - or equivalent license if you are applying from out of province
- Current Driver's Abstract

As part of the hiring process, candidates will undergo a security clearance, a criminal record check and be required to complete a P.A.R.E. physical test (pass time is 4 minutes, 45 seconds or better). Final candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a pre-employment psychological assessment.
Positions are available in locations throughout Alberta. Candidates should be prepared to accept positions in any location. Interview and relocation expenses will not be granted.
Selected candidates will attend a 16 week training program upon commencement and must successfully complete this program to continue employment. The training program will begin in September 2014.
