Municipal Affairs, Edmonton - The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) leads the coordination, collaboration and cooperation of all organizations involved in the prevention and mitigation, preparedness and response to disasters and emergencies.
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst is responsible for the continual development and maintenance of the mapping systems and geographical information required to support planning and the conduct of prevention/mitigation, preparation, response and recovery operations related to issues of public safety and emergency management in Alberta, and producing all GIS models and data necessary for planning and executing the response to, and recovery from, an emergency event.
Specific duties include planning and executing the integration of GIS applications and data, and Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) into AEMA planning and operational tools, as well as making data available for base mapping, designing and executing training in the use of GIS technology and creating ad hoc features as required.
In addition to being a specialist in mapping systems and communications, this position works collaboratively with well-developed business networks and shares responsibilities with other roles in AEMA to support response and recovery activities in the Provincial Operations Centre (POC) during emergencies.
The successful candidate will use exceptional communication skills and superior problem solving skills while working within a team environment providing creative and innovative business solutions to various stakeholders. In order to be successful in this position you must have extensive knowledge of GIS software such as ArcGIS, ArcVIEW, and AGOL and air photo and satellite imagery capabilities, along with specialized knowledge of provincial base mapping, and natural resource inventory data. The successful candidate must also have strong knowledge of Standard Geographical Classification system.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Technical Diploma (GIS, map making or computer science preferred) and a minimum of four years? experience in the area of geomatics or system administration and ARC GIS software are required. Provincial base mapping and emergency management framework experience, and knowledge of the Common Alerting Protocol (particularly the Canadian Profile) are assets. Equivalencies will be considered.
Salary Range: $ 2,265.06 to $2,983.25 bi-weekly
This is a 2-year temporary salaried position with a possibility of extension. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies within the Government of Alberta.
