The Minister of Health invites applications from qualified individuals interested in being appointed to and serving as a pharmacist member on the Expert Committee on Drug Evaluation and Therapeutics.
The Expert Committee on Drug Evaluation and Therapeutics (Committee) is established under section 7 of the Government Organization Act. The Committee is an advisory agency accountable to the Minister of Health and is responsible for:
-providing advice as related to the Alberta Drug Benefit List (ABDL); and
-providing recommendations to the Minister for consideration in making decisions on
the inclusion, deletion, coverage criteria, interchangeability and benefit status of
drugs on the ABDL, by reviewing drug submissions and applying expertise to assess
the scientific, therapeutic, clinical and socio-economic merits of drug products.
There are upcoming pharmacist member positions on the Committee.
The Committee meets every two months for one or two full days. Preparation time is required prior to each meeting.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be clinical pharmacists who are regulated members on the clinical pharmacist register of the Alberta College of Pharmacists, and who hold a practice permit that is not under suspension and has no conditions affecting their ability to serve on the Committee.
Please indicate any previous or current appointments to Government, private or not-for-profit sector agencies, boards or committees.
The following will not be considered for appointment as Committee members:
-Government of Alberta employees; and
-Individuals whose appointment would result in an actual or perceived conflict of interest.
Applicants are required to have expertise in evaluating the therapeutic value and cost-effectiveness of drug products and expertise in one or more of the following fields: pharmacy, pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, pharmaco-economics, pharmaco-kinetics, and/or epidemiology.
Competencies: Competencies recruited for include: superior verbal and written communication skills; well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills; the ability to concisely synthesize information from various sources; the ability to exercise objectivity, sound judgment, and diligence; and the ability to understand and apply legislation.
Short listed applicants will be required to undergo a criminal record check. This posting may be used to fill both existing and future vacancies.
Committee members are appointed by the Minister of Health for a term of up to four (4) years.
This is not a salaried position. Currently, Committee members may receive honoraria for time spent on Committee business. Committee members may also be reimbursed for reasonable expenses necessarily incurred in the course of performing their duties as Committee members.
