As the Area Forester you will play a key role in monitoring industry planning, silvicultural activities and forest operations to ensure their adherence to forest management agreements, detailed forest management plans, and related policies and legislation. You will have the opportunity to liaise with other government employees, industry, First Nations communities, municipal governments, and the general public to develop forest management plans and promote sustainable forest management. At times, you will be required to mediate between various groups to resolve issues, concerns, and conflicts over program implementation. When necessary, you will also participate in the forest protection and forest health programs. Other duties include providing guidance and advice to forest officers, assisting with policy development and implementation, project planning, and related administrative functions.
ABOUT YOUR COMPETENCIES:
Strategic Thinking skill acting as a lead contact on tenure holder issues and issue management, which involve areas of responsibility, silviculture, and forest management plans.
Adaptability to guide the area in ecosystem-based and adaptive management principles.
Build Collaborative Environments to provide input on Provincial Policy Development and
Self Management skills to be responsible for Performance Monitoring of the Detailed Forest
Management Plan and Operational Delivery.
Communication skills to respond to correspondence and communication requests from both internal client and external stakeholders in a timely and accurate responses
ABOUT YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT:
As the successful candidate, you will be operating out of an office setting in Whitecourt. You will have frequent contact with Ministry staff and colleagues, other government departments, clients, and external stakeholders province-wide.
A degree in Forestry supplemented with four years directly related experience. Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Professional Foresters. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
Bi-weekly: $2,610.76 - $3,371.99 Annual: $68,140 - $88,008
