Are you looking for a fantastic opportunity to provide administrative support for the prosecution of criminal and provincial offences? The Calgary Crown Prosecutor's office is looking for a highly organized and adaptable Legal Assistant in their Witness Central Unit.
As a Legal Assistant in our Witness Central Unit, you will provide administrative support for the prosecution of criminal and provincial offences in the Crown's Office. You must be a self-motivated team player that uses your excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills to assume responsibility for the provision of a broad range of administrative support services. Knowledge of the Criminal Code will be essential to respond to inquiries from defense counsel, victims, accused, the public, court services staff, law enforcement and other outside agencies. In addition, you will verify witness information is entered accurately into our internal data base system and ensure that subpoenas are printed for trial matters and are distributed appropriately. You will ensure that witnesses are notified by telephone when the witnesses are called off in a timely manner. You will also provide effective management of scheduling interpreters for Provincial Court, Traffic Court, Family and Youth Court and Court of Queen's Bench. You must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently. You will be familiar with various statutes and the Criminal Justice System.
A Legal Assistant Certificate or Diploma and a minimum of 1 year legal administrative/secretarial experience in a related field. Working knowledge of MS Office is required. Having a good overview of the criminal justice system will be considered an asset as well as previous work experience in criminal law.
$1,868.66 - $2,297.57 bi-weekly
