The Health Protection Branch is responsible for the core Public Health functions of Health Protection including Disaster and Emergency Preparedness, Infection Prevention and Control, Environmental Public Health, and Outbreak Management. Environmental Public Health (EPH) involves actions, often using a regulatory framework, to protect individuals and communities against risks to health and safety. The EPH team plays a major role in maintaining the department's legislation, standards, guidelines and policies and supports several federal/provincial/cross-ministry initiatives to ensure that public health protection is given due consideration.

Are you a highly motivated individual who is looking for an opportunity to develop and implement environmental public health policies and strategies? The Health Protection Branch within the Acute Care and Population Health Division has an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant.
Reporting to the Director, Environmental Public Health, you will support the Environmental Public Health team in their mandate through literature review, information/data gathering and synthesis; and logistical support and coordination.
Other responsibilities will include:
-Identifying, characterizing and evaluating risks to public health posted by environmental hazards;
-Assist in the development effective strategies, policies, processes and tools in managing such environmental health hazards; and
-Assist with the assembling of briefing notes, responses, and other action requests by providing background information.
Your exceptional communication skills will enable you to build effective relationships with stakeholders and professionally represent Alberta Health in a variety of contexts, often involving liaison with multiple stakeholders.
A two-year diploma in a related field is required. A post-secondary degree in Environmental Health Sciences, Public Health, Health Policy or Administration, or related area(s) is considered and asset. Equivalencies will be considered. Related experience such as work in policy development, qualitative research, and/or monitoring and assessment in the field of Environmental Health, Public Health or Health risk Assessment is an asset. Experience in conducting scientific literature reviews, e-scans, jurisdictional reviews, and other types of technical writing are also desirable.
$1,951.38 to $2,536.65 bi-weekly ($50,931 to $66,206 per annum)
This is a temporary 1 year position. Final candidates for this position may be required to undergo a security screening. This competition may also be used to fill future vacancies at the same and/or lower classification levels.
