The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is looking for an enthusiastic individual to fulfill the role of Provincial Director of Autopsy Suites.
This position is primarily tasked with overseeing the direction and operation of the Autopsy Suites in both Edmonton and Calgary. This position will be responsible for ensuring the application of the Fatality Inquires Act (FIA), Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPP) and other legislation in the duties undertaken by the Autopsy Suite Unit. This role will also be responsible for the development and implementation of best practices in the field, standard operating procedures and policies. The Provincial Director will be involved in the operational management of the Autopsy Suite and aid in the strategic planning of the office. This role will also involve being the primary contact for body transportation which includes; contracts, receiving and preparing invoices, and creating internal controls regarding transportation payment. This position will communicate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including funeral homes, forensic pathologists, Chief and Deputy Chief Medical Examiner, transportation companies and police.
To be successful in this position, you will need strong leadership, problem solving, communication, analytical and verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of human anatomy and the skills to preform autopsies, external examinations and specialized techniques in extracting toxicological specimens will be useful when developing standard operating procedures and best practices. Knowledge of relevant legislation and experience with accounting concepts will be utilized when working with contracts and payments of transportation services.
A two year diploma in a related field (Biological Sciences, Funeral Director and Embalming, Forensic Science, EMT or paramedic) plus four years related experience. Experience with, project management, contract management, supervising/leadership and conducting autopsies or external examinations are considered assets.
Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
$2,265.06 - $2,983.25 bi-weekly
Successful candidates will be required to undergo security screening. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies.
