Treasury Board and Finance, Edmonton - Tax Policy is part of the Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch within Treasury Board and Finance. The Tax Policy Branch works closely with other branches in the division and with the divisions of Tax and Revenue Administration and Budget Development and Reporting. The Tax Policy Branch helps develop provincial positions on a broad range of corporate, personal and commodity tax issues. Consultation with a wide variety of stakeholder groups is an integral part of this process.

Are you ready for an opportunity to make a difference? We have an exciting and challenging opportunity as a Budget Officer in Tax Policy. You will be responsible for providing advice and recommendations to the Minister of Finance on areas of tax policy as they impact the government's fiscal and business plan objectives. Often, this entails monitoring tax-related developments in Alberta and elsewhere, conducting research on taxation issues, and responding to inquiries and concerns that have been raised by senior management, elected officials, the media, industry, and the general public. The analyst participates on interdepartmental and interprovincial committees on issues that relate to Alberta's tax system.
The successful candidate will assess the effectiveness of current or proposed tax programs and assist with evaluating tax policy proposals. The successful candidate will be an effective team member who possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong conceptual, analytical and time management skills, creativity and integrity.
A university degree in economics, public administration, business, finance or related discipline plus 2 years? experience OR a CA designation, a Bachelor of Law, or Graduate degree in Economics, Public Administration, Business, Finance, or related discipline. Equivalencies will be recognized. Knowledge of applied and theoretical taxation policy, strong analytical and computer skills, knowledge of federal/provincial fiscal relations and taxation policies and knowledge of federal and provincial tax legislation is preferred. Experience in building consensus among multiple stakeholders with diverse interests is an asset.

$2,263.14 - $3,108.05 Bi-Weekly ($59,067 - $81,120 Annually)
Final Candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a security screening. Individuals with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same or lower level. Interviews are scheduled to begin approximately the week of September 16, 2013.
