International and Intergovernmental Relations coordinates Alberta's relationship with various Governments, agencies and private sector interests in Canada and around the world. Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to further your career in international business? We are looking for a talented individual to further Alberta's trade and investment objectives in North Asia.
Reporting to the Manager, Trade and Investment, Northeast Asia, you will support the team in the planning, development, and execution of Alberta's international trade and investment strategy for Northeast Asia. Your responsibilities will include assisting the Northeast Asia Branch through the gathering and dissemination of market intelligence and information, utilizing your knowledge of Northeast Asia to assist Alberta companies with expanding their export markets and ultimately supporting the team in activities that promote Alberta industry to international clients. This position requires extensive communication with; industry, associations, all levels of international and domestic governments, as well as export agencies. The position will also be expected to contribute to other branch initiatives that may fall within the scope of intergovernmental responsibilities.
Your attention to detail, writing skills, organizational skills, flexibility in dealing with multiple requests, ability to work under tight timelines, ability to work in a team and project management skills are essential for succeeding in this position. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills, superior tact, diplomacy, cultural awareness and problem solving skills will be required to build effective relationships.
University degree in a related field such as Commerce, International Business/Relations or Political Science. A focus on marketing and/or economics is an asset. Considerable progressively responsible related experience and excellent writing and communication skills are required. Proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Office and database management software is required. An awareness and sensitivity to the cultural norms of other countries, particularly Northeast Asia region, is essential. Knowledge of various industry sectors in Alberta, as well as previous travel to Northeast Asia is an asset. Knowledge of a second language such as Mandarin, Korean or Japanese would be an asset. Equivalencies will be considered.
$2,596.42 - $3,403.56 bi-weekly
A valid passport will be required as the position requires travel to both domestic and international locations. A writing exercise will be included as part of the interview process. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower level of classification and salary. This competition may be used to fill current and future vacancies across government.
