The role of the Field Support Technologist will provide you with opportunities to learn and utilize your knowledge in support of the highway system for the Province of Alberta, having a positive impact on the traveling public.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will provide technical support in the administration of the highway maintenance, roadside development and contractor performance management programs.This includes providing technical expertise and assisting with the collection of inventory data and condition rating information related to asset management and assisting the Maintenance Contract Inspectors by preparing quantity estimates for work order and monitoring work in progress. You will be involved in auditing the technical work done by consultants and maintenance contractors to confirm compliance with contractual agreements, department standards, guidelines and specifications.
As a Field Support Technologist, you must possess effective communication, problem solving, and organizational skills to complete these duties along with excellent interpersonal abilities and a commitment to service excellence to liaise with consultants, contractors, and while working with other Departments.
In this role, you will balance your time working within an office setting and using a Government vehicle for daytime travel throughout the assigned contract maintenance area. This position works out of the Peace River office within the Peace Region. Peace River is a scenic and progressive urban centre in northwest Alberta with just under 7,000 residents. The community is situated in the Peace River Valley and straddles the banks of the mighty Peace River. The town is within a five hours drive north of Edmonton and two hours northeast of Grande Prairie and is serviced with air, rail and bus links. Related Technical Diploma plus 4 years of related experience including highway construction, maintenance, and/or survey and materials testing is required. Experience with snow and ice control activities on highways is preferred. Computer experience in MS Office products is required. Experience with contract administration and GPS satellite hardware and procedures is an asset. Preference will be given to candidates with a Civil Engineering Diploma. Equivalencies will be considered.
Preference will be given to candidates with a Civil Engineering Doiploma and experience with snow and ice control activities on highways is preferred.
$2,265.06 to $2,983.25 bi-weekly
Candidates with lesser experience may be considered at a lower classification and salary level. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license.
