Justice and Solicitor General
The Honourable Jonathan Denis, QC, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General is seeking applications from Albertans interested in serving as a member of the Victims of Crime Programs Committee.
Established by the Victims of Crime Act, the Programs Committee is an independent body that evaluates grant applications for both police and community based victim programs. The Program Committee consists of at least three, but not more than five members appointed by the Minister. Duties of the Committee include evaluating applications for grants for programs; providing information with respect to programs and services that assist victims and to undertaking other duties related to the administration of the Act.
Members should be experienced and skilled in written and oral communication with a demonstrated background in community service and leadership and have an interest and some knowledge of victim of crime issues. Financial experience with not-for-profit community organizations, and experience with grants to community will be considered assets.
There is one member position available which will be appointed for a two-year term. Members of the Committee receive honorariums for attending authorized committee meetings (approximately 2 meetings per year). Members of the Committee are also entitled to be paid all necessary travel expenses. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security clearance.
