The Addiction and Mental Health Branch of the Primary Health Care Division is responsible for setting strategic direction; developing provincial policies, strategies and standards; and providing input into legislation in the areas of addiction and mental health, and maternal, child and youth health.

Are you looking for an opportunity to demonstrate your policy development and project management skills and expertise related to addiction? This key role within the Addictions and Mental Health Branch may be the challenge you are seeking.
This position is responsible for leading, developing, making decisions and participating in complex, strategic projects related to addiction prevention, treatment and aftercare issues. This position develops policy and provincial strategies for health focusing on substance abuse (including prescription drug misuse, alcohol use and abuse and illicit drug use) in Alberta and its effect on homelessness, involvement in the criminal justice system, and need for multiple, cross-sector programs and services. This position builds strong working relationships and provides expert leadership and support to stakeholders across Ministry, Alberta Health Services, other government sectors, and other affiliated stakeholders both within and outside the health sector.
To be successful within this position a sound knowledge of emerging addiction issues, strategies and theories related to health promotion, addiction and substance abuse prevention is necessary in order to prepare written reports, presentations, briefings and correspondence. You will use your leadership, analytical, policy development and project management skills to support multi-stakeholder and/or ministry-wide initiatives. The successful candidate must also have proven ability in building positive team relationships and effective partnerships as well as experience in assimilating and developing new duties and approaches quickly and effectively.
A University Degree in the human services or health services field (ex: Social Work, Psychiatric Nurse, Addiction Counselor) and a minimum of four years of progressively responsible addiction related experience is required. Equivalencies will be considered. Skills and experience in project management and project planning is an asset. Knowledge of legislation related to addiction and mental health would also be considered an asset.
$2,596.42 to $3,403.56 bi-weekly ($67,766 to $88,832 per annum)
This is a permanent full-time position. This competition may be used to fill a number of future vacancies in various ministries throughout the Government of Alberta.
