Alberta Transportation has an opportunity for a professional engineer to join the Fort McMurray regional team. Under the direction of the Infrastructure/Operations Manager, you will take a lead role in administering the highway maintenance program for northeastern Alberta.
In the role, your focus will be on the administration and delivery of highway maintenance, roadside development control and providing engineering expertise in the administration of various contract and service agreements required in highway operations. In addition, you will provide technical expertise in reviewing construction design drawings, Traffic Impact Assessments; signal, signing and pavement marking operation; tendering minor capital and highway improvement projects; consultant hiring and project management duties, providing operations input into key construction meetings, and providing advice into planning and development related issues, including access management.
This position requires excellent leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to apply sound judgment in problem solving and decision-making to plan work activities and to determine roadway operations requirements.
This position will give you the opportunity to build effective working relationships through your ability to negotiate and facilitate collaborative and innovative problem solving when partnering with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. You will draw on your exceptional interpersonal skills and well-developed written and verbal communication skills when responding to public inquiries and when interacting with contractors, consultants, and officials from other provincial departments and municipal governments.
This position will require frequent meetings with key stakeholders, the HMC, site visitations, travel, and preparation of responses to Action Requests, Briefing Notes, and public inquiries.

A related degree in Engineering with 5 years of related engineering experience in roadside operations including highway maintenance, construction, contract administration, and operational practices. Experience using Microsoft Office products, specifically Word and Excel is required. Experience with budget administration and allocation is as asset.
Experience working on Alberta Transportation's highway construction projects and familiarity with Alberta Transportation standards, specifications and contract administration processes will be considered an asset.
P.Eng or Engineering-in-Training (EIT) designation from a recognized provincial or territorial professional engineering association is required. Please include your registration # from the association for your designation.
Candidates with lesser experience may be considered at a lower classification and salary level
$2,883.32 - $3,992.18 bi-weekly
