Justice and Solicitor General

Reporting to the Chief Sentence Administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring sentences
are administered accordingly. In this dynamic, high volume role you will monitor workflow; review daily admissions; respond to offender requests; prepare federal files for transfer; complete sentence and fine calculations; determine release eligibility; prepare offender files for release and interpret legal documents to establish legality of detention.
To succeed in this position, you will demonstrate strong organizational skills and judgment to ensure all key responsibility areas are addressed. Communication skills are vital in this role as you will liaise with court clerks, crown prosecutors, police officers, and other agencies to clarify legal documents. You must possess effective time management, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and problem solving skills. Strong leadership skills are also required, as you will provide daily guidance, training, coaching and supervision to administrative staff.
This position is Monday to Friday and shift work is required. Day shift is from 06:45 to 15:00 or 09:00 to 17:15 and afternoon shift is 14:45 to 23:00.
High School Diploma plus three years related experience in a correctional/legal environment. Knowledge of sentencing practices and procedures and a strong knowledge of the criminal justice system is a requirement. Also, several years of supervisory experience is required. Experience with sentence administration and proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems (ORCA, JOIN and CPIC) is an asset. Equivalencies considered.
$1,724.26 - $2,111.09 bi-weekly
The Calgary Remand Centre is located at 12200 - 85 Street NW in Calgary. Your own transportation is required as there is no public transportation to the Centre. Free parking is available. You will be eligible for a Correctional Institutional Salary Allowance for each day worked and shift differential. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
