The Minister of Health invites applications from qualified individuals interested in being appointed to and serving as a public member on the roster of public members (Roster) under the Health Professions Act.
Public members are appointed to the Roster by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. These public members may be chosen by the regulatory college councils for the purpose of sitting on complaint review committees and hearing tribunals for professions governed by the Health Professions Act.
There are approximately twenty upcoming positions available on the Roster.
Qualifications: Applicants should possess some basic knowledge of the health care system, professional governance, administrative decision making, and an understanding of policies and issues facing health professions in Alberta. Experience with policy, law, finance, education, testing, accreditation and enforcement may be considered assets.
Please indicate any previous or current appointments to Government, private or not-for profit sector agencies, boards or committees.
Competencies: Competencies recruited for include: superior communication skills; well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills; the ability to synthesize information from various sources; the ability to exercise objectivity, sound judgment, and diligence; and the ability to understand legislation
Applicants must be 18 years of age or over and reside in Alberta.
The following will not be considered for appointment as public members on the Council:
-Government of Alberta employees;
-Officers of Alberta Health Services;
-Individuals whose appointment would result in an actual of perceived conflict of interest that cannot be managed.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to undergo a criminal record check.
Remuneration and Terms: Public members are appointed to the Roster for a term of up to three years and may be reappointed, but may not be appointed for more than six consecutive years.
This is not a wage or salaried position. Currently, public members may receive honoraria in accordance with Schedule 1, Part B of the Committee Remuneration Order (O.C. 466/2007). They may also be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred in the course of performing their duties as public members.
