Do you have the drive and skills needed to keep children safe and families intact? Our Intervention and Preservation team, serving the west central Alberta communities in Clearwater and Brazeau Counties, is seeking a highly motivated Caseworker who is committed to providing strong and effective intervention services to children and families.
This opportunity will offer the successful candidate a challenging and rewarding career, protecting children, preserving the family unit and developing the community as a whole to respond to children's needs. You will possess strong interviewing and assessment skills, communicate clearly, both orally and written as well as have counseling and problem solving skills. Experience negotiating and determining appropriate programs and services to meet children's and family needs will aid you in this role. Your ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with community and department resources is essential. This position will be responsible in providing case planning and management of a variety of agreements/orders (Family Enhancement, Custody, Supervisory, Temporary Guardian and Permanent Guardianship). The successful candidates will assess the need for services and negotiate an appropriate Family Enhancement, Concurrent, or Transition to Independence plan. Other duties include evaluating client progress/compliance, providing family support and working with children in care in their transition into adulthood. Determining and assessing risk to children through the investigation process, developing concurrent plans, making referrals to community resources and developing public awareness of child abuse issues and resources are also key responsibilities of these positions.
Our client base resides in a rural environment and provides service to individuals from various cultural backgrounds. A working knowledge and understanding about the barriers First Nation people experience in meeting their family's needs will assist this position in the effective provision of services. The successful candidate must have the ability to assess risk and family functioning, the interest and ability to work closely with community partners, well-developed organization and time management skills, as well as excellent written documentation, a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and verbal communication skills.
Bachelor of Social Work Degree with some directly related experience working with children and families. Please clearly indicate the length of time, in months, of your related experience. Previous Child Intervention experience is preferred. Equivalencies will be considered.
$2,368 to $3,062 bi-weekly (based on $61,826 - $79,921 per annum)
This is a temporary opportunity ending on March 31, 2014 with a good possibility of extension.
Final candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a security screening Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Check) and Children?s Services Intervention Check.
Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Ministry. Travel is a requirement of this position therefore, the successful candidate must have a valid Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
The Health Professions Act requires that the successful applicant who possesses a BSW, MSW or Diploma in Social Work be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers prior to being employed.
Delegated Caseworkers are expected to participate on an after-hours on-call rotation.
An eligibility list may be established from certified candidates stemming from this competition, and these candidates may be considered to fill future vacancies in the region. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification position.
